06 Kubler Riesling "K" $21.00
The Kubler Riesling offers the best profile a finer, value-priced
Alsatian Riesling can provide, showing vibrant floral and citrus
notes which follow through to the flint-accented, clean body of
the wine. There's a hint of the classic "petrol" as well
in the nose, which is the sign of a great Riesling! The finish on
this sings, and shows that it is a superb wine to be chilled and
enjoyed on a warm day when the foods are of a wide variety, but
some of them needing a sharper wine in order to hold up.
07 Artazuri Rose $8.70
Now's the chance to try this great rose, which is a bit stronger
than your average pink or copper colored rose. The flavors are
full and bright, and reflect the nature of Grenache, which is
always a zesty, spicy number: taut raspberry, cherry, and even
some citrus notes fill the palate before some intriguing spice
notes produce a delightfully vibrant finish. The texture is
creamy and also has a clean mineral quality which makes for a
classy experience overall. Pairs nicely with seafood,
especially salmon, trout, and shellfish. Note about temperature:
this should be served chilled, but if it is too cold, the
flavors are muted. We suggest you open it at its coldest and
then leave it out, tasting it every once in a while to determine
the temperature and flavor profile you like the best.
08 Terras di Xisto $9.70
The name of this wine comes from the unique soil of the area in
Portugal's Alentejo region. The vines are planted in dirt
which contains pulverized "schist," an metamorphic
rock which absorbs heat, and passes along mineral and spice
notes in the final results of the wine. This is light bodied
but has quite a presence in the glass. A wonderful summer red -
serve slightly chilled with dinner or as a opening wine for
the evening.
