Vino Verité Wine Clubs
Sampler's Club March 2009
2004 Matahiwi Pinot Noir $16
New Zealand Pinot Noir is always a great experience. This was the first
vintage produced from a carefully cultivated vineyard - the result is a
nuanced but also robust wine: cedar scented cherries follow through to
great fruit, spice, and hints of smoke on the finish.
Pairing Suggestions: lamb (of course), and meat cuts grilled
with straightforward, simple spices (perhaps just salt and pepper);
caramelized onions. Also good with medium-spicy foods, especially
Indian fare.
2005 La Chablisienne La Sereine $21
A refreshing Chablis that begs "better pick up some good fish
for dinner tonight." A lively, bright core of fruit is framed
by mineral scents and hints of grass. A thoroughly classy wine
throughout.
Pairing Suggestions: fish, fish, fish! Try the lighter choices
such as sole or tilapia. Mussels and other shellfish would be great
too, especially if just lightly seasoned and steamed. Halibut, which
has heavier meat, would also work well.
Vino Verité: More wine, less attitude!
